Taitung pause: lakes, fruits and indigenous flavours
Driving Taiwan’s east coast, we paused in Taitung. The kids loved kayaking on Flowing Lake while we feasted on tropical fruits and Ami delicacies at the night market. The town’s laid‑back vibe and indigenous culture were a refreshing contrast to big cities.
Family travel tip: Rent kayaks with life vests, try local specialties like makang (sticky rice in bamboo) and plan a visit to the National Museum of Prehistory.
Have you tried indigenous cuisine on your travels? Our East Coast itinerary highlights Taitung’s hidden gems. Altogether, we spent about $204 for the day. Highlights: Our stay was $47, a solid deal for the comfort we got., Breakfast came to $20, simple but satisfying., Lunch was $13, offering great value.
