Sun Moon Lake: cycling, cable cars and cultural villages

Sun Moon Lake: cycling, cable cars and cultural villages

At Sun Moon Lake we cycled around Taiwan’s largest natural lake, stopped for tea at a hillside café and rode the cable car to the Aboriginal Culture Village. The children loved feeding fish and exploring the modern visitor centre. Sunsets over the water were magical after the daytime crowds.

Family travel tip: Rent bikes with child seats, take the cable car early and pack insect repellent for lakeside rides.

What would be your family’s favourite activity at Sun Moon Lake? Our Taiwan guide includes the best cycling routes and cultural experiences. Altogether, we spent about $159 for the day. Highlights: Our stay was $67, a solid deal for the comfort we got., Lunch was $14, offering great value., Dinner cost $30, proof that tasty doesn’t mean pricey., Transport ran us $35, cheaper than many cities.
