Luang Prabang: monks, waterfalls and night markets

Our time in Luang Prabang was filled with serene mornings watching monks collect alms, cooling off under the turquoise cascades of Kuang Si and weaving through the night market with our kids who loved trying coconut pancakes. Biking through rice paddies and buffalo‑dotted fields revealed a slower side of Laos, and the relaxed pace made this UNESCO town a family favourite.

Family travel tip: Wake early to witness the alms‑giving ceremony respectfully, visit Kuang Si before the crowds and rent bicycles for gentle countryside rides.

Would your kids be more excited by waterfalls or night markets? Our Laos itinerary includes timing tips and kid‑friendly cafés. Our stay was $52, a solid deal for the comfort we got. Dinner cost $16, proof that tasty doesn’t mean pricey. We spent $148 on activities worth every cent. Altogether, we spent about $228 for the day.
