Siem Reap temples and treasures: the faces of Bayon

Siem Reap temples and treasures: the faces of Bayon

Among Siem Reap’s temples, Bayon became our favourite. After sunrise at Angkor Wat we headed to this 12th‑century masterpiece, famous for its serene stone faces gazing in all directions. The boys counted them—there are more than 200!—and we studied carvings telling stories of everyday Khmer life. Monkeys entertained us by stealing fruit from inattentive tourists.

We balanced temple time with a boat trip through a floating village and a visit to the Landmine Museum, which gave us context for Cambodia’s recent past.

Family travel tip: Schedule shorter temple visits with breaks at shaded cafés or playgrounds; even history lovers need rest.

Have you ever seen a place as cinematic as Bayon? Let’s plan your own Angkor adventure—complete with kid‑friendly pacing and meaningful experiences. Altogether, we spent about $223 for the day. Highlights: Our stay was $55, a solid deal for the comfort we got., Breakfast came to $15, simple but satisfying., Lunch was $39, offering great value., Dinner cost $6, proof that tasty doesn’t mean pricey., We spent $88 on activities worth every cent., Transport ran us $20, cheaper than many cities.
