Siem Reap temples and treasures: Ta Prohm’s tangled roots

Siem Reap temples and treasures: Ta Prohm’s tangled roots

Our time in Siem Reap included the famously overgrown Ta Prohm. After sunrise at Angkor Wat, we wandered through corridors where tree roots embrace ancient stone. The kids felt like explorers in a movie set. We told them how nature and history coexist here, and they watched macaques scamper over the temple walls.

Later we rode through a floating village and visited the Landmine Museum. These experiences reminded us that travel is as much about learning as it is about sightseeing.

Family travel tip: Wear sturdy shoes for uneven temple steps, bring wipes for sticky hands after sampling local snacks, and encourage kids to observe rather than touch sacred carvings.

Are you drawn to ruins reclaimed by nature? If you’re planning a family trip to Cambodia, I’m happy to share our route and tips. Our stay was $55, a solid deal for the comfort we got. Breakfast came to $10, simple but satisfying. Lunch was $12, offering great value. Dinner cost $38, proof that tasty doesn’t mean pricey. We spent $80 on activities worth every cent. Transport ran us $75, cheaper than many cities. Altogether, we spent about $270 for the day.
