Keelung flavours: night market delights by the sea

Arriving by commuter train from Taipei, we were greeted by mist and the salty smell of Keelung’s harbour. At Miaokou Night Market we sampled buttery crab, oyster omelettes and peanut ice cream rolls under a canopy of neon signs. The market’s proximity to the ocean means the seafood couldn’t be fresher, and the atmosphere is electric.

Family travel tip: Bring cash for small plates, start at the main entrance and follow your nose; wipe down seating with tissues before settling in.

What’s your go‑to street food when visiting a coastal city? If you’re excited by night markets and harbour views, our Taiwan itinerary includes all the details. Altogether, we spent about $128 for the day. Highlights: Our stay was $64, a solid deal for the comfort we got., Breakfast came to $18, simple but satisfying., We spent $46 on activities worth every cent.
