Hualien adventures: marble gorges and river pools
From Hualien we rode scooters to Taroko National Park and were amazed by the towering marble walls and turquoise rivers of the gorge. We hiked along the Shakadang Trail, exploring caves and cooling off in crystal‑clear pools. The combination of rugged scenery and accessible trails made it a family favourite.
Family travel tip: Wear helmets on scooters, bring water shoes for rocky riverbeds and check trail conditions at the visitor centre.
Do you prefer exploring by scooter or on foot? Our Taroko guide covers the best trails and safety tips for families. Our stay was $67, a solid deal for the comfort we got. Breakfast came to $13, simple but satisfying. Dinner cost $22, proof that tasty doesn’t mean pricey. Transport ran us $35, cheaper than many cities. Altogether, we spent about $137 for the day.
