El Salvador, Part 3: Back to El Tunco and La Libertad

Storm cleared enough to head back down to El Tunco, and turns out we timed it right — the Surf City El Salvador Pro (WSL Championship Tour) was in full swing. Got to watch actual pros doing airs and cutbacks on waves that would’ve eaten any of us alive, which made the earlier “hang ten” on dry land look even funnier in hindsight.

Wandered the whole strip while we were down there. Found the sticker-covered surfboard monument (boys were not allowed to add one, they asked), climbed around on the black volcanic rocks at low tide watching the sets roll in, and nearly stepped on an iguana casually strolling across the boardwalk like it owned the place.

El Tunco’s also just covered in street art — huge murals everywhere, one with a pink armored octopus wearing a hat that somehow made total sense in context, another with a fish that looked like it belonged in a horror movie. Enzo threw up the shakas for every single one.

Good tradeoff for missing the beach the first time around — we got a way better show.
