El Salvador, Part 6: Ruta de las Flores (and Father's Day is the 17th of June here)

Spent the day working through a few towns along the Ruta de las Flores, starting with Juayua — colorful town for the photo and a two-decker bus/tractor? ride. It had a beautiful old church with a great two-tower setup, and enough cobblestone streets for the boys to run wild and break ankles, which reminds me of my mission.

Turns out we timed this whole thing for Father’s Day without really planning it that way. Found a church mid-service with the whole altar decked out in red banners for Sagrado Corazón, then later in the day the towns had gone all in on it too — a “Papá” photo booths loaded with photo options, and later a full balloon arch spelling out “Te Amo Papá” that I got roped into standing inside of. Not complaining.

Enzo remembered his hot air balloon from Laos; again, each town had plenty of photo shoots, and posed against a butterfly wing mural because Enzo insisted. Dinner ended with a very polite stray dog begging tableside, front paws up and everything, and somehow talked one of the kids out of a piece of food. After dinner, the boys and I went to church for a Wednesday night soccer match.

Mountains, flowers, church bells, murals, and apparently my own holiday — good day to wander this stretch of the country.
