El Salvador, Part 7: 7 Waterfalls Hike (Los Chorros de la Calera)
This one was the real deal. A guided hike outside Juayua, stringing together seven waterfalls through coffee farms and rainforest, ending at the pools of Los Chorros de la Calera.
Not a casual stroll. River crossings, slick rock scrambles, and a rope-assisted climb up one of the falls, where you’re basically walking straight into the water coming down. Our guide had Enzo by the hand, pulling him up the rocks while Xander and Axel scrambled up on their own a few feet over. Those two ended up just sitting there afterward, soaked, shoes and all, looking like they’d survived something.
Definitely a hire-a-guide situation, not a wing-it one. Worth every slippery step though — this was an awesome hike that was a bit more hiking than planned, but I call it training for the hikes to come. (foreshadowing…)
