Guatemala Part 14: Monterrico

After Acatenango, everyone needed to just sit still for a few days. Hotel Pazifico Monterrico did the trick — only 4 other guests the whole stay, so the pool, the slide, and the beach were basically ours.

Every morning I got up before everyone else and just sat outside listening to the waves for a couple hours while the rest of the house slept in. Hard to beat.

The big event for the boys was releasing baby sea turtles, and naturally that became a race. Everybody named their turtle first. First heat went to Axel’s turtle, Templeton. Second heat, Enzo’s turtle Joe took it. Xander and I both got beat by children’s turtles, for the record. We have now completed the cycle of turtle life with conception (Philippines), egg laying (Costa Rica), and now Birth and the long walk (Guatemala).

Black sand beach again, but this is the Pacific side, different feel than the Caribbean back in Puerto Barrios — bigger waves, louder surf.

A few days of doing basically nothing but sun, surf, beach, pool, sunsets, and repeat.
