Honduras 3: Copán Ruinas Town, Nacimiento de Pulha.

Separate day from the ruins; this one was just wandering Copán Ruinas town, which turned out to be worth its own post. The place is covered in murals, actual well-done ones, not the usual tourist-town filler, block after block of them. At night the main square lights up, church glowing white against the sky, string lights strung through the trees, actually a really nice place to just sit.

Then we drove out to Nacimiento de Pulha, a natural spring-fed river, $15 for the whole family to get in. Kids swam, there was an old green slide bolted to the bank that dumped straight into the water, and we spotted a big iguana just hanging out in the grass by the shore, completely unbothered by us.

For dinner, we went Chinese again, and this time we thought we’d learned our lesson from Guatemala: order fewer plates. Three dishes, five of us, seemed reasonable. It was not reasonable. These plates were bigger than any we’ve seen the entire trip; we barely made a dent, and ended up finding a family nearby to hand off the leftovers to. While we waited on food, Xander broke out his Chinese on the owner, who lit up, gave him a photo and a handful of candy for the effort.
