Honduras 8: Last Day on Utila
Wrapped up the island with the two weirdest, best stops we’d saved for last.
First was Driftwood Beach, which is exactly what it sounds like except somebody’s clearly been out there with too much time and a chainsaw, turning storm-washed logs into hearts and thrones and grinning wooden faces propped up in the sand. Half sculpture garden, half shipwreck, all completely unbothered by explanation. We just wandered it and sat in whatever weird throne looked most photogenic.
Then the Jade Seahorse, which might be the strangest thing we’ve stumbled into this whole trip. Somebody spent years cementing broken bottles, tile shards, shells, and what looked like an entire yard sale into dragons, fish, archways, thrones, whatever the mood called for that day. Mosaic tunnels you duck through, a lizard head big enough to climb inside of, glass towers stacked like something out of a fever dream. No real logic to it, just somebody’s imagination poured directly into concrete.
Closed it out the way you’re supposed to close out an island, sun dropping orange over the boats in the harbor, and Xander and Enzo fighting over one banana smoothie with two straws like it was the last one on Earth. Utila’s a hard place to leave.
