When Paradise Isn’t Perfect
When Paradise Isn’t Perfect
Port Barton’s scenery is straight out of a postcard, but behind the palms our second day there was messy. A night of heavy rain left the streets muddy, the power flickered on and off, and the boys came down with tummy troubles from questionable tap water. We had planned a beach picnic, but instead spent the morning hunting for bottled water and a pharmacy. Unplanned parenting on the road means rolling with these hiccups—laughing at ourselves, improvising meals and remembering that even paradise has plumbing issues.
Family travel tip: Always travel with basic medicines, a water purifier or plenty of bottled water, and patience. Rural destinations like Port Barton may experience power cuts and limited services; be ready to adjust plans and embrace the slower pace.
