Riding High in Puerto Viejo

Riding High in Puerto Viejo

Riding High in Puerto Viejo

Some days just feel like cloud nine. We rented bikes and pedaled along the palm‑lined road south of Puerto Viejo, stopping to swim at deserted beaches and snack on patacones. The boys mastered riding with surfboards strapped to their backs and we found a secret rope swing over a river. As the sun set we devoured Caribbean‑style rice and beans with coconut milk. If numbered clouds existed, this day would be number 9 for sure.

Family travel tip: Puerto Viejo is perfect for cycling—rent beach cruisers and explore at your own pace. Carry a small repair kit and watch for potholes. Sample Afro‑Caribbean cuisine like rondón and jerk chicken at local sodas.
