Sometimes your lodging choice makes the trip. We lucked out with two cosy Airbnbs near La Fortuna that had jungle views and friendly hosts. From our deck we could see Arenal Volcano smoldering in the distance. We hiked down 500 steps to the base of La Fortuna Waterfall, its spray cooling us as we waded in the turquoise pool.
